May I Offer

He doesn’t know his potential
he’s never been told
he embraces limitations 'cause
he’s constantly reminded of those.

He doesn’t see his beauty
he rarely looks inside
he thinks he knows the ugliness
his surroundings won’t let him hide.

Tomorrow is full of dreams,
and a lot more of the same
where some would say for him
it seems impossible to ever claim,
a life of possibilities where
he could one day see
a world in which he isn’t judged
because his skin’s ebony.

But I would like to offer to this gifted young man
a truth that has been proven since time began,
regardless of the odds that seem to prevail
when God is your source
there is no way you can fail!
